John Catterall MBE
John, born in Blackburn, was educated at St Silas’ School Blackburn, Lea County Primary School Preston and Kirkham Grammar School. He completed a Teacher Training Course at Chester and received organ lessons at the Cathedral from Mr Harold Hullah, subsequently gaining an LRAM Organ Teacher’s Diploma.
John’s first appointment was that of teacher of English and Music at William Temple School Preston. After two years at the School he became Head of the Music Department. At about the same time he moved from his first Church post at St Christopher’s Lea, to become Choirmaster at Broughton.
Following seven years teaching in Preston, John was appointed Director of Music at Kirkham Grammar School. He was awarded the MBE in 2002 for Services to Music in Lancashire.
Now retired from classroom teaching, John is delighted to be able to devote much more of his time to his work as Choirmaster in such a thriving Parish.
